Orchestra project: The “Gurrelieder“
Ways into orchestra work
Learning how to play together is essential for instrumentalists pursuing a career as orchestra musicians. But learning to listen to each other is also important for solo artists in other respects. That is why the orchestra projects are an integral part of the Bachelor of Music curriculum at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH). In May 2016, the HMTMH orchestra was presented with the opportunity to rehearse Arnold Schönberg’s “Gurrelieder” with the NDR Radiophilharmonie for the opening of the Kunstfestspiele Herrenhausen. Under the musical direction of festival director Ingo Metzmacher, the monumental work was performed on 15 May 2016 at the Hanover Kuppelsaal. Violinist Amelie Geweiler took us along to the rehearsals of this extraordinary orchestra project.
