Optogenetics – using light to control cells

New fields of research, application, and business

Can we activate and deactivate cells with a light switch? Optogenetics, a relatively new scientific discipline that combines optical technologies and life science, has the potential to revolutionize many areas of research. Light-sensitive cells can be controlled at a molecular level which has an impact on disciplines like molecular biology, medicine, and laser technology, providing an almost endless number of application perspectives. The pioneering phase is only just beginning which makes it even more important to enter into a dialogue with scientists, interested parties, and users on ideas for future innovations, business fields and markets. To this end, Hanover’s Laser Zentrum e.V. means to provide a platform with its Innovationsforum Optogenetik – Technologien und Potenziale (INOTEP).
