New president at FHDW Hannover
The University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover has elected a new management team. Business economist Prof. Dr Hans-Jürgen Wieben has been the new president since 1 January.
Just last September, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover (FHDW) opened its new campus on Freundallee. Now, the university has also elected a new management team. Prof. Dr Hans-Jürgen Wieben is at the helm. ‘We have been on a growth course for years, have a cutting-edge range of courses thanks to continuous adjustments, and probably the most modern university building in Hanover with our new building. I want to continue and further expand this positive development,’ says the business economist, who is replacing the previous president, Prof. Dr. Stefan Bieler. ‘The ranking results on StudyCheck show that our concept is popular with students,’ says Wieben, referring to the independent university comparison portal. Since 2021, FHDW Hannover has achieved top marks here and has been named ‘Germany's most popular university’ in the ‘universities with up to 5,000 students’ category for five years in a row.

Wieben previously headed the Business Administration department at FHDW for six years as a member of the university management team. After studying at Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, Wieben earned his doctorate at the University of Münster and then worked for eleven years in auditing and management consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
New management team
The new management team at FHDW is completed by Prof. Dr. Anke Bethmann (Head of Business Administration) and Prof. Dr. Harald König (Head of Computer Science/Business Informatics). The FHDW university regulations stipulate that a new management team must be elected every seven years.
