TiHo receives positive evaluation
The University of Veterinary Medicine has once again been included in the list of veterinary education institutions evaluated and recognised by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education. Among other things, praise was given for the organisation of the degree programme and the support provided to students.
In October last year, an international team from EAEVE spent a week visiting the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation (TiHo) to evaluate its teaching, research and services. ‘We are proud and delighted that we were able to complete the assessment successfully and are now re-accredited. The week-long assessment was preceded by months of preparation, including a comprehensive self-evaluation report. Employees from all TiHo departments and students made an impressive contribution and presented their TiHo in an impressive manner,’ said President Professor Dr Klaus Osterrieder.
Positive assessment
The assessors clearly recommended that the European Committee on Veterinary Education (ECOVE), which makes the final decision on accreditation, accredit TiHo. In their report, they praised, for example, the well-structured and well-implemented study programme and clinical placements, the excellent support provided to students by the university's facilities, the well-qualified teaching and support staff, the integrated quality assurance systems, and the excellent teaching and research resources. They also highlighted the excellent clinics for domestic and exotic animals, the very high number of clinical cases, the extensive, well-equipped and well-maintained facilities for teaching, research and services, and TiHo's one-welfare approach.
European Committee on Veterinary Education
The EAEVE is the European association of veterinary education institutions. It also includes educational institutions in Japan and Turkey. All European universities and faculties offering veterinary medicine courses are assessed by the EAEVE every seven years. In order to ensure a high standard of veterinary training throughout Europe, the EU has defined minimum requirements for veterinary training in a directive. The EAEVE has taken on the task of checking whether universities actually meet these requirements. After a positive assessment, the TiHo is included in a list of evaluated veterinary training institutions recognised by the EAEVE. This is important for TiHo graduates: with accreditation, other European educational institutions recognise the degree completed at TiHo. This also means that graduates are free to practise their profession within the EU and, where applicable, beyond. The next evaluation will take place in 2031 in accordance with EAEVE rules.
